Held at Lake Keepit Sport & Recreational Centre from 17th April to 21st April. There were 120 participants coming from Sydney, Crescent Head, Condobolin, Armidale and Uralla and this included a number of Youth Team members and other leaders. This was the 20th Discovery Youth Camp and everyone enjoyed a first-night video presentation on the history of the camp.

The theme for 2017 was based on Ephesians 1:8; “Open the eyes of my heart”.

The youth listened to a number of engaging talks on subjects such as; Faith, Seeking God, Freedom in Christ and Spiritual Blindness. The night rallies also included wonderful times of praise and worship. There were also some great afternoon activities such as; archery, kayaking, tree climbing, craft, sport and the inaugural “Discovery mud run”.

Camp evaluation survey responses have been very positive and many participants have indicated that they are already looking forward to next year’s camp.

Some responses from 2017 participants:

“The worship really touched me. I really connected with God. It was just myself and God. Even though I am in Year 7, I was still able to be in the presence of God”

“I loved the young adults talks, loved the pastoral groups and worship”

“Never stop running this camp, the impact it is having in deeper and bigger than you will ever know”

2016 Camp

The theme for 2016 was based on Philippians 4:13; “I can do all things in Christ”

“It’s a great time for young people to connect with other kids their age; without the fear being judged on looks or talents. The stillness, quietness and freedom that discovery brings allows me to have a greater awareness of God and myself” – Harry

“Discovery is an empowering youth conference where God’s presence fills the atmosphere day and night. The youth and young adults are rapidly on fire for God and seek his kingdom throughout the 5 days. It’s a place where teenagers and young adults can come together, freely worship the Lord and form strong friendships with one another. Personally I like discovery because it’s a place where I can gain knowledge on the Lord and his Holy Spirit, and take my relationship with him further” – Gemma

“Discovery conference is probably the highlight of my year. It’s the best atmosphere for any young person to be apart of” – John

The theme for 2015 was based on Proverbs 3:5; “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”

Overall, numbers at this year’s camp were up by 25% on the previous year with a particularly strong increase in the Young Adult (school-leavers) group.
